My letter to Barack Obama

without comments

I was pretty pissed about the Democrat’s cave in on the FISA bill. MoveOn.org sent out an e-mail asking people to tell Obama to pledge to investigate the criminal actions of the Bush administration should he get elected.

This gave me a nice opportunity to vent a bit about it:

Senator Obama -

I was extremely excited to vote for you in the California primary.

One of the things that I’ve liked about your campain is that are willing to stand up to republicans line of rhetoric on many issues like foreign policy, patriotism, and race and tell it like it is.

I am extremely dissapointed in your vote for the FISA “compromise” bill. I don’t see this bill as a comprimise at all, but rather a cave in on the part of the Democrats on Capitol Hill.

I feel that this bill dangerously weekens the Constitution of the United States. It undermines the balance of powers and the rule of law by saying that if the president asks you to break the law, it’s not breaking the law.

Democrats in Congress and the Senate have been unwilling to prosecute the President and his staff for clearly violating the original FISA statute because it is politically inconvenient in an election year.

I’m asking you now to stand up and tell it like it is. The Bush administration broke the FISA law. They have broken the law on other issues as well. I think that you should stand up and say that this is one of the ways that the Bush administration strayed off of the path of law and democracy after 9/11 and that if elected you will launch a full criminal investigation into the ways that the Bush administration broke the law.

It is more important that what political tactics are conveinient in an election year. It is about protecting the constitution now and for the future.

Here’s the link where you can do the same : http://my.barackobama.com/page/s/contact2
